Record in the browser
Using the browser recording feature of mocoVoice, you can record audio from the built-in microphone of your device (computer or smartphone), or from the target you select for screen sharing (tab, window, or entire screen), and proceed directly to transcription. Even if you do not have an IC recorder or external microphone, you can record audio from meetings, discussions, or online meetings whenever you need to.
Note
- About the built-in microphone: Depending on your environment, the sound quality may drop or the operation may become unstable.
- If you want more stable recording: We offer free rentals and sales of recommended voice recorders (external microphones). Contact us via Contact for details.
Permissions required to use
You need two permissions to use browser recording. The team administrator must turn it on for the team, and you must turn it on your device.
| Permission type | Who sets it | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Team permission | Team administrator | ”Browser recording” in Team Settings |
| Device permission | You (User) | “Record in browser” switch on the transcription screen |
Step 1: Team administrator turns it on for the team
- Team administrators: Enable “Browser recording” in Team Settings.
- Non-administrators: This setting does not appear. Ask your administrator to set it up, and then proceed to Step 2.
- Select Team from the left sidebar.
- Scroll to the Browser recording section.
- Turn on the switch. A confirmation dialog will appear. Read the content and click Confirm and enable.
The following warning appears in the confirmation dialog.
Step 2: User turns it on the device
Open the transcription screen (mocoVoice home screen) and turn on the switch to the left of the Record in browser heading. This switch is saved for each device and browser, so it does not affect others even on a shared computer.
NoteIf browser recording is turned off for the team, this heading itself does not appear. Please do Step 1 first.
Step 3: Allow required permissions for recording
When you start recording for the first time, your computer (or smartphone) and browser will ask if you want to allow the necessary permissions.
- For microphone recording
A message like “Allow use of your microphone?” appears at the top of the screen. Click Allow. - For screen sharing recording
Select the target you want to record (Tab, Window, or Entire Screen) on the sharing screen. For a tab, turn on Also share tab audio. For a window or entire screen, turn on Also share system audio below the sharing dialog before you start sharing.
- Audio recording for windows and the entire screen is available in Chrome/Edge on Windows, and Chrome (version 141 and later) on Mac. In other environments, you can only select a tab.
- OS (computer) confirmation
When using it for the first time on a Mac, Windows, or smartphone, allow the browser (Google Chrome, Safari, etc.) to use the microphone in your OS settings.
NoteIf you accidentally select “Block”, click the lock icon (or “i” icon) on the left side of your browser’s address bar. Change the microphone setting to “Allow” to start recording again.
Step 4: Start recording
Click the large blue button in the center of the screen to start recording. The button changes to “Start recording with microphone”, “Start recording with screen sharing”, or “Start recording with microphone and screen sharing” depending on the recording method you selected.
Start recording with microphone
During recording, the button turns red and shows the elapsed time. Press the same button again to stop.
Stop recording (00:12:34)
NoteA single recording can last up to 3 hours. It will stop automatically after 3 hours. For long meetings, we recommend stopping the recording at a convenient break.
Notes during recording
Keep the following points in mind while recording.
- Do not close this screen: If you close the transcription screen tab or switch to another app, the recording may stop. Especially on smartphones (iPhone/iPad), locking the screen or switching to another app easily interrupts the recording.
- Maintain your network connection: The app communicates with mocoVoice servers while recording. If your Wi-Fi connection is poor, a reconnect message may appear at the top of the screen.
- Avoid plugging or unplugging earphones and microphones: If your audio input device changes during recording, the subsequent audio may not be recorded.
When you record on an iPhone or iPad, the following warning banner appears at the top of the screen.
After recording
When you stop recording, the recording is saved automatically, and you can start the transcription immediately. Even if you cannot proceed to transcription due to a connection loss, the recording data remains on the server. You can select an untranscribed recording from Select from past recordings on the transcription screen.

If you cannot record properly
- If the microphone does not respond or the volume is low, check if your OS or browser microphone permission is turned on.
- If you cannot find the “Record in browser” switch, ask your team administrator to complete Step 1.
- For detailed troubleshooting, see If you cannot record.
- If that does not solve the issue, see If you cannot transcribe or use Contact.
